10 classy (honest!) ways to incorporate butterflies into your ceremony

Butterflies have got a bad rep in recent years - blame the Disneyfication of weddings - but there's something so beautiful and unearthly about their light, fluttering wings that they definitely deserve a place in your wedding-planning lexicon. Adding a butterfly motif to your celebration can be a fun and simple way to create a coherent theme without overloading your wedding guests.

Some ways with butterflies are simple and straightforward - a watercolor butterfly on invitations, for example; or a sweet, simple butterfly hair slide. Others are a little more inventive. We love  Sweet Paul's butterfly objet d'art  as a centerpiece idea; and how about incorporating a few butterfly brooches (easy to find) into your  brooch bouquet ? You could also have your baker decorate your cake with iced butterflies, choose custom confetti with cut-out butterflies or even go all-out with a butterfly gown.  You could even include some fun butterfly facts on tables for your guests (did you know butterflies can't fly if they're cold - or that they taste with their feet?) to entertain themselves (and each other) with.

We've selected a few simple solutions for the bride who wants her ceremony to include her favorite winged insects - but we wouldn't recommend going for every single one. Butterflies, like kohl liner, should be approached with one simple rule in mind: less is more.
