5 Ways to Add Southern Charm to Your Wedding

Are you only a little bit country? Do you prefer dipping your toe in the pool of Southern décor to cannonballing into the deep end? Would you rather have rustic touches at your wedding than an overarching (and sometimes overwhelming) down-home theme? We know not every bride wants her celebration completely immersed in a motif—some just like a little sprinkle—so we’ve come up with five easy ways to add a dash of Southern charm to your wedding.

Burlap and Lace

This popular combination of contrasting materials displays the beautiful balance between country strong and Southern belle. And since it’s so popular, you can find just about any piece of décor you could want made out of it, from table runners to candle holders.

Mason Jars

Another popular and versatile Southern touch are mason jars. While you could easily go overboard by using them in place of almost every container your celebration might need (center pieces, drinking glasses, utensil holders, etc.), if you’re looking for just a hint of Southern charm, we recommend sticking with a singular purpose. One of our favorite and more subtle options is illuminating your venue with half pint Mason jar light strands.

Barnwood signs

Barnwood is an absolute necessity in any Southern wedding, and when you’re looking for just a dash or two of distressed wood, you cannot go wrong with barnwood signs.  A “Here Comes the Bride” placard during the ceremony and a helpful guidepost directing guests to all the important places at the reception add just the right amount of country chic.

Homemade hot sauce

Favors are one of the easiest ways to add ambience to your celebrations, so why not add some spicy Southern flair and give your guests a gift their taste buds won’t forget? Whip up some special homemade hot sauce and pour it into convenient little bottles with personalized labels. Don’t forget to put some chips out at the reception!

Peach cobbler lollipops

If you like your Southern-flavored favors sweet instead of spicy, then consider this confection: peach cobbler lollipops. Since peach cobbler is as Southern as apple pie is American, these sugary treats are a fitting link to your favorite region.
