Sweet Treats: Delicious Wedding Desserts For Every Season

On your big day you might want to serve something sweet that's not just cake. Not everyone wants the big three-tier cake, but would prefer something small and then delicious desserts served up to their guests.

While there are plenty of wedding cake alternatives out there, you could take some inspiration from the season and serve something up that makes the most of what's fresh and available.

Spring

Spring is the season when the world wakes up after winter and there is new life everywhere. That means you can make the most of juicy berries and fruit that is coming into season. Think of flavors like lemon (we chose a lemon cheesecake) that is as crisp as a spring morning. Key lime pie, cupcakes, fruit tarts and Crème Brûlée are all perfect for a spring wedding!

Summer

With summer come sun and warmth, and so you want desserts that reflect that. You should stay away from heavy foods and stick with light options like fruit skewers or a light lemon mousse. If it's feasible you could serve up ice cream floats or grown up ice pops (anyone for a G&T pop?) Choux buns with cream are another delicious option, or pavlova is always a summer favorite! Think about your favorite summer treats and then serve them at your wedding.

Autumn / Fall

The leaves are starting to fall from the trees and you notice the temperature dropping. This is the season for comfort food, and it doesn't come much more comforting than donuts! We think this is the perfect time of year for a donut table at a wedding, but there is a lot more choice out there too. Churros are another hearty favorite, or make the most of the seasonal fruits with some pies or crumbles. If your wedding is near Halloween then toffee apples are just the thing, or get everyone in the mood for camping with some s'mores.

Winter

Getting married in a winter wonderland? Then there are lots of options for desserts. For a winter wedding we love petit four, cookies, and chocolate – lots of chocolate! If you're having a Christmas wedding you can take inspiration from the day, and decorate your food with plenty of snowflakes. Food should warm the heart and put a smile on your guests' faces – they will when they've washed it all down with an eggnog cocktail!
