Trend Alert! Would You Attend a Fake Wedding?
The couple are at the altar and a nervous grooms smiles at his bride in white. Then, all of a sudden, a man cries out and proclaims his love for the groom! Before the guests can do anything the bride runs away. But wait...this isn't a wedding tragedy but a staged wedding – the latest party trend in Argentina!
Actors play out a different storyline at each event, but each one ends with the fake bride throwing her bouquet to the female guests. These events usually attract 600 to 700 paying guests, with a wedding filled with soap-opera style drama and a lively party that lasts until 6am the next morning.
Falsa Boda has been staging fake weddings for two years and they have become a huge success. As the rate of marriage in Argentina falls, groups of friends in their 20s and 30s are now paying around $50 each to attend staged weddings.

Women are the first to buy tickets to the 'fake weddings' but there are plenty of men there too on the day. Organizer Martín Acerbi told The Guardian: “Our guests get all the fun of a wedding party with none of the commitment, or the problem of finding someone who is actually getting married."
Another side of these weddings is the chance to meet people. Those attending pretend to be a part of the family of the bride or groom, and create fun backstories that they share with other 'guests'. Who knows how many future real weddings might happen as a result of these 'fake weddings'!
