Modern or Traditional - What Kind of Bride are you?
After you've got engaged your thoughts turn to planning your wedding. Even if you're not getting married for some time, you can't help but think what kind of wedding you want to have.
At the mention of the word 'wedding' you probably conjure up visions of a big white dress with flowing train and everything that comes with that. But there are lots of alternatives out there, so how do you know which way you want to go - modern or traditional?
'Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.' The traditional rhyme still applies to brides today, so if you're a traditional bride, go with it! There are lots of wedding traditions that are alive and well, from the father giving away the bride to the tossing of the bouquet.
The traditional bride favours colours such as while lilies and roses with hints of green foliage. People know what to expect from a traditional wedding, and most people who attend know what is going to happen on the day from the moment they arrive. Family traditions are another consideration, and you might even wear a gown that has been handed down to you.
The traditional bride usually gets married in a church, usually one close to your home or it could be the one where you were baptised. If you want a traditional church wedding but are not a regular at services, they might still accommodate you. You will need to speak to someone at the church about your options and what kind of service would work for you.
Want to get married somewhere a bit different? Then there are lot of options available to the modern bride. If you want a civil ceremony there are now lots of locations open to you. Visit different types of wedding venues or hire a wedding planner to help you with your search. But make sure you know what paperwork you have to complete to ensure the marriage is legal.
Your modern wedding can be anything you want it to be. You can incorporate anything you want to (within reason) from a non-white gown to the food you serve. Your flowers can be anything from a single peony to a jewel encrusted bouquet.
Your wedding day is the perfect way to share your love your way. You can have vows that express your love for each other any way you like - from your own penned vows to ones done in song. Everything from your dress to your photographs is up for negotiation, so let your imagination run wild!
