OMG! George Clooney is engaged!

We know we weren’t alone in thinking that Clooney would be Hollywood’s last remaining bachelor (hand in hand with Leonardo DiCaprio) - so his engagement, to British lawyer Amal Alamuddin, came as something of a surprise.

Who is she?

Alamuddin, unlike, well, a lot of Clooney’s exes, has a job - one that doesn’t seem to revolve around being promoted on the red carpet by Georgie boy. She’s a human rights lawyer (like Mark Darcy, remember?) - representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and former Ukrainian leader Yulia Tymoshenko - who speaks fluent French and Arabic and a published author. (From wrestler to lawyer - at least no one can say our George is predictable!)

When did it happen?

Well, no one really knows. People magazine says it was “not that long ago” - but it has been confirmed, by George’s mom Nina, who “couldn’t be happier” and, oddly, by Alamuddin’s law firm, Doughty Street Chambers, whose CEO released a statement saying Alamuddin “brings a bright light to everything she is involved in”. (Boss swap, anyone?)

Alamuddin joins a long list of women to have dated Clooney - among them MTV presenter Karen Duffy, Kelly “Mrs Travolta” Preston, French waitress Celine Balitran, British model Lisa Snowdon, cocktail waitress Sarah Larson, Italian model Elisabetta Canalis and former wrestler Stacey Keibler - and a shorter list of women to have been engaged to him: Clooney married Talia Balsam in 1989, divorcing three years later in 1992 and announcing that he would never marry again. “I just wasn’t very good at it.”

Now we want details, George! Show us the ring, share the date and give us some hints about your ceremony! Please?
