Real Wedding - Lisa and Shay in DeSoto, Iowa

We love a vintage wedding, so when we saw Lisa and Shay’s vintage details we could not hide our delight. We think you'll agree that this wedding has so many details we want to steal!

The couple decided to have a bohemian themed wedding and chose their colors from things they found around them. “Shay had owned a 1974 VW Bus back in high school,” Lisa says. “He borrowed this particular one from a friend for our special day. To pull in the orange of the VW Bus, we incorporated that in my bouquet and other floral arrangements. Blankets for the bus and ceremony were a collection of quilts and Afghans either owned or made by my Grandma Doris.”

The beautiful flowers the couple chose came from a local farm, “I really wanted it to look like I had just gone out to my garden and picked what was blooming. A few days before the wedding I picked out all the stems I wanted and also had a gal at the farm create my bouquet.”

The couple wanted a barn as their wedding venue and held their ceremony in a small courtyard. The reception was in the barn itself, where people were treated to a delicious buffet, a dessert table that featured antique dishes borrowed from families to serve treats made by family members of their favorite recipes. The couple said the amazing cake was angel food with cream and berries.

The couple had a day that truly reflected who they are and Lisa says it was truly perfect! “At the end of the day we really just wanted to be married and wanted our wedding to be a true representation of who we are and nothing that seemed cookie cutter. Every moment really was perfect for us, and having our closest friends and family surrounding us meant a lot.”
