5 Off-The-Beaten-Path Destinations For Your Honeymoon

You’ve already done your fair share of traveling and you’d really like to visit somewhere different for your honeymoon. Besides, who doesn’t want to see the reaction on friends’ faces when you tell them you’re going to Oman with your honey! However, choosing where to go on your honeymoon can be a tough, albeit happy, challenge. With a wealth of information online, recommendations from family and friends and the ever-present temptation to choose a location by just throwing a dart at a map, the process can get a little overwhelming. So we’ve narrowed down our favorite off-the-beaten-path honeymoon destinations to help make things easier for you!

Morocco is a real treat for honeymooners - a land where colors, smells, tastes and sights collide for an enticing sensory overload. An extremely unique country, with cultural influences from northwestern Africa, the Mediterranean, the Middle East and more, Morocco is also home to amazing cuisine and stunning architecture. Top all this off with the ability to experience amazing travel adventures such as trekking the plains of the Sahara desert on camelback or surfing some of the best waves in the world in Essaouira and you’ve got yourself one incredible honeymoon destination!

Oman may conquer up images of dry wastelands, sprawling deserts and sandy streets, but it’s also home to some of the most stunning beaches in the Middle East. The sparkling turquoise green water of the Arabian Sea laps gently against the sunburned orange coast, making Oman the perfect place to escape from reality for a few days of bliss under the hot Middle Eastern sun. Just make sure to get out of the resort to explore the dramatic landscapes, too!

While others compete for space on the beaches of Mexico or Guatemala, visitors to Belize have the beautiful tropical sands all to themselves. Belize is quieter, often more beautiful and scarce in major touristic developments, compared to most other Central American destinations. In Belize, you can experience incredible and unique travel experiences like scuba diving and swimming with whale sharks. If adventure combined with sun is your thing, Belize should definitely be on your honeymoon radar.

Mystery, spirituality and big smiles - these are the things most often associated with Indonesia, and we can see why. The archipelago of more than 13,000 islands floating between southeast Asia and Australia allows visitors to get both physically and mentally lost in the beauty of the area. Among rolling green mountains, lush rainforests, ancient temples and gorgeous beaches, Indonesia really has it all, plus some of the world’s most friendly and welcoming people to boot!

Old-school romance surrounds Romania - especially the capital city of Bucharest, which is often referred to as the "Paris of the East". Newlyweds can enjoy the splendour of the buildings, stroll along leafy, tree-lined boulevards, gaze in awe at the magnificent flower gardens and sample the homely food, all without the hefty price tag that comes with similar experiences in Paris. Did we mention that Bucharest also has much more character, charm and edginess than Paris? Romania is the hidden gem of Eastern Europe.
