6 beautiful birdcage veils

Choosing a wedding veil is often as important to a bride as choosing a dress - that is, if you choose to go the veiled route. If you're flip flopping on the subject, a birdcage veil can be a really lovely compromise - it's not as full-on as a full or cathedral veil but it can be just as dramatic!

Did you know, by the way, that a wedding veil was originally worn as a form of protection against evil spirits? Nowadays, veils are a style choice - although one that's often made with a view to preserving traditional wedding-day values and getting a very classic feel to your bridal style.

A birdcage veil is perfect for the bride who wants to nod to tradition, but is perhaps going down a more eclectic or vintage route with her dress. The birdcage - which is a short veil, usually ending above the neck and crafted from a stiff netting, attached via a hairpiece or a vintage-style hat - looks great with a tea-length dress, or with a more classic gown that has a lot of detail around the neckline, which can otherwise be swamped by a longer or more detailed wedding veil.

Check out these variations on the theme. Our favorite? We especially love the red birdcage veil - what a daring choice!
