How To Wear Short Hair at a Wedding

Whether you’re a bride or a guest at a wedding, you want your hair to look chic and stylish. But when you have short hair, unless you get extensions, you’re limited to the styles you can wear.

You can always stick on a fascinator or a cute box veil, but we think there’s more you can do with your hair. So we have looked to the stars (not the ones in the sky) for inspiration and come up with these shorter looks that will look good at any wedding.

Wear a sleek bob

Michelle Williams was the queen of the pixie haircut, but these days she can be seen on the red carpet with a super sleek bob. Inspired by her role in the Broadway revival of Cabaret, Michelle keeps it simple with a short side-parted straight hairstyle. Fun and flirty pieces frame the face, and this look has a light and airy feel to it. You could also add body and volume by blow-drying the hair with your head upside down pulling your hair towards the face.

Try a messy bob

It takes a lot for celebrities to make us gasp, but when Jennifer Lawrence unveiled her short hair in 2013 that’s exactly what happened. At the Christian Dior show during Paris Fashion Week Jen’s hair was looking longer than it has done for a while. We love her cute messy bob, a look that has dominated the red carpet in 2014. Use texturizing paste on towel-dried hair to create loose curls, and a round brush and blow dry your hair. You can then switch to a barrel curling iron for loose waves after it has dried.

Have a pixie cut

All hail the queen of short hair! Anne Hathaway has proved that short hair can be styled in more ways than one. Her pixie cut has been pinned, twisted, knotted and accessorized, and Anne looks her stylish self every time. For weddings we love her simple and sleek red carpet look, but most of Anne’s pixie hair styling tricks will work for formal occasions.

Try a wavy pixie

If you think a pixie cut is too severe for your face, you can still have a short hairstyle that is perfect for a wedding. Audrey Tautou’s trademark pixie haircut has morphed into a wavy, gamine short hairstyle that made her the face of Chanel No. 5. Create delicately tousled curls with a large barrel iron for a look that’s playful but easy to maintain throughout the day.

Go for a bold cut

Known for her dramatic changes, Jennifer Hudson went for a edgier haircut at the CFDA Fashion Awards. She wore strong make-up with a bold haircut that is perfect for a more edgy wedding. This is a look you could easily soften or make sleek, so it’s perfect for a variety of occasions. You can check out her hairstylist Cesar Ramirez’s work on his Instagram account for inspiration.

Go wild!

24-year-old Kristen Stewart unveiled her new look as she attended the Chanel show at Paris Fashion Week. Her short hair created a stir across the world amongst style bloggers and fashion insiders. Kristen parted her feathered new look and let her hair go naturally wavy. If you’re going to an indie wedding, then this would be the perfect hairstyle to copy. If you’re a bride you can copy Kristen’s complete look and offset brightly colored hair with an all-white outfit.
