Mind and Body: Staying Healthy Before the Wedding

Your ‘To-do’ list is growing while the number of days to the wedding is shrinking.  But with all the stress of organizing a wedding you can forget to take care of yourself. 

You promise to love each other in sickness and in health, but who wants to feel under the weather on their wedding day?

Eat your greens

You want to feel good on the inside and outside when you walk down the aisle. Nutrition is central to looking and feeling good. Plan your meals with your partner and stick to a healthy and balanced diet. If you’re trying to lose weight you might think skipping meals is a good idea, but your body needs nourishment in order to maintain its energy levels.

Keep working out

You might think you don’t have the time to fit in exercise while planning your wedding, but it’s important to keep up your exercise regime. This is when you have time to clear your mind and give your body the opportunity to let out stress. Exercise will keep you in shape, fit, and mentally alert in the days, weeks and months before your big day.

Get some sleep

You might be freaking out about how much you need to get done, but staying up all night working on favors or table settings will not help your mind or body. Research shows that getting a good night’s sleep helps boost your immune system, so get eight hours of sleep a night and you will feel energized the next day. If you are having trouble sleeping you should add some aerobic exercise to your daily routine and never drink caffeine after 3pm. Make sure to put down any electronic devices at least an hour before you go to bed and try some meditation to calm your mind.

Have a time out

Sometimes you just need to stop and breathe. If you’re finding that everything is getting on top of you, enlist your family and friends to help out with your planning. Make sure you give them deadlines so you don't end up stressing out about their progress. No matter how busy you are, make the time to give your body and mind a chance to rest, whether that be in a yoga class or a trip to the beauty salon.

Take your vitamins 

Give your body a boost by adding some vitamins to your daily routine. Even if you’re doing everything else right it won’t hurt to add a few supplements to keep you healthy. Taking a multivitamin will give you all-round care, while vitamin B will give you energy. You can also try some vitamin C and a garlic supplement to help keep nasty colds at bay.
