Real Wedding - Matt and Dhara in Cancun, Mexico

One of the best things about getting married is the honeymoon – what better excuse for a nice long holiday after all that stressful planning (you deserve it!)

There are couples who take that to the extreme, like Matt and Dhara who have set off on a two-year honeymoon!

But this is no ordinary romance. Their story of true love spans two continents and two cultures which came together in one beautiful day by the sea in Mexico.

Matt was online one day while backpacking in Southeast Asia, and was looking for tips about traveling India when he saw Dhara who had moved to New Jersey with her family from India. The two became pen pals for a few months and chatted online.

Matt had to cut his India trip short because he got sick and came back home to New York. It was there he met Dhara at a cafe in NYC and their first date ended up being eight hours long! Matt had planned to travel all over Europe and Latin America, be he cancelled them for true love.

When it came to proposing there is no big story, but a different one none the less. Matt had planned to throw Dhara a surprise party with friends and family to ask her to be his wife. But this man can't keep any secrets from his true love, and the ring was burning a hole in his pocket. Dhara came home from work one day and saw that Matt was unusually giggly.  Like any other day she went into her closet to change out of her work clothes, then in Matt ran wearing his boxers screaming at her to marry him!

The couple married in a short but charming ceremony that took place at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, with about 40 people in attendance. Three years after they first met, the couple are picking up where Matt left off and heading on their travels in an epic two-year honeymoon!
