Real Wedding - Samara and Ryan at Illinois Wesleyan University

They say that some of your best days are spent at university – so why not get married there! That’s exactly what Samara and Ryan did when they exchanged vows at the Evelyn Chapel in Illinois Weslyn University.

The couple from Lincoln in Illinois decided to get married in Bloomington where they both live. Given that Lincoln is a small town the couple have known each other since they were babies, although they have been dating for almost seven years.

23-year-old Samara and 22-year-old Ryan attended Illinois Wesleyan University (where they got married) and Ryan got down in one knee in a place known as the ‘Hot spot’. “It was a cold winter night and Ryan had run back to his room to grab a few things so that he could stay the night,” Samara says. “I fell asleep waiting for him to come back and was awoken by a friend with a letter to meet him at the hottest spot on campus. I got dressed and when I walked outside it was snowing and there he was standing on the hot spot in his suit.  He talked about our life together and how he wanted to continue to be with me and got down on one knee to propose.  When I returned to my residence hall a few of my friends on campus were lined up waiting to congratulate us. It was super sweet!”

The couple had a beautiful wedding at the university with lots of special details that they made themselves. “It was supposed to be a sort of vintage modern theme. The theme and color scheme could be summarized as chalk board, lace, and burlap.  We made most all of our decorations so it was fun and made the day special!”

Ryan even broke into song during the ceremony which melted Samara’s heart and even the bridesmaids got in on the action: “My highlight would just be the ceremony in general.  I mean, the ring bearer was adorable. The song Ryan sang to me and the song my sister and bridesmaids sang to us was amazing, and the fact that I had two grandpas walking me down a narrow aisle was hilarious.”

The whole experience was topped off with a honeymoon in Cape Cod. “Our honeymoon was a blast! We stayed just outside of Boston. The village we stayed in was so quaint and had so much beauty. We road the ferry to Nantucket for a day, got to go whale watching for a day.”
