Shoes worth splashing out on

Did you know that the old wedding traditions of “something borrowed, something blue" are supposed to ward off the Evil Eye – which threatens to render a woman barren?

Well, we're not superstitious here at Dreamwedding, but we do love a traditional touch – and while the old-school version of “something blue" is often hidden (in the form of, say, a garter, or a piece of blue fabric sewn into your gown) we like our cues to take a little more obvious form.

Why not wear your blue somethin' somethin' on your feet – in the form of a pair of seriously show-stopping shoes from a great designer. That way you'll be paying heed to tradition (there you go, Mom) while also getting your hands (and feet!) on a pair of shoes you'll have – and wear – forever.

Today's footwear selection have two things in common: they're blue (duh!) and they have slim, stiletto heels – so steer clear if your wedding is on a lawn or a beach. You don't want to be sinking into the ground all the day long!

Clockwise, from bottom left: for ankle support – all the better for dancing – Gianvito Rossi's suede numbers could do the trick ($698 at MyTheresa.com); Giorgio Armani's ankle-strap T-bar sandals ($567.44 at Farfetch.com) have a sweet, vintage feel that would be ideal with a tea-length dress; and Alexander Wang's super-sexy sandals would be great for a summer 'do ($515 from Net-a-Porter) – simple and to the point.
