Things to Do on Honeymoon in Istanbul

If you’re looking for an alternative to beaches for your honeymoon - and you love culture, cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere, look no further than Istanbul! Turkey’s largest city (but not the capital, geography nerds, that's Ankara!) bridges the divide between east and west, Asia and Europe, and is a spectacular city with so much to see and do! Here are some of the must-do activities for your honeymoon in Istanbul.

5 Explore the expanses of Topkapi Palace

Istanbul has several palaces left over from Ottoman times but if you visit just one, make it Topkapi Palace. This vast palace is a true testament to the wealth and opulence of the city, back when it was named Constantinople. Be sure to visit the Harem, and enjoy the wonderful views over the Bosphorus.

4 Wander the streets of the Grand Bazaar

Shopping may not be first on your mind for your honeymoon, but visiting the Grand Bazaar is not just about the shopping! Admittedly with around 3,000 “shops” selling anything you could possibly imagine, this is the ultimate place to shop but it’s also a part of the city’s history and culture, and best of all, it’s fun!

3 Enjoy the views from Galata Tower

Galata Tower is one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Built in 1348 the tower has wonderful views of water and city, including Istanbul’s historic peninsula. Stay and enjoy a coffee and pastry in the tower’s café and admire the views a little longer.

2 Dine by the Bosphorus

Istanbul is packed full of restaurants for all tastes and budgets, but for the perfect honeymoon dining experience you should head to the water’s edge and enjoy one of the city’s excellent fish restaurants. It’s pricier but well worth the cost for the views and the fresh seafood!

1 Ride a horse-drawn carriage on the Princes Islands

Take a ferry ride from Istanbul to the Princes Islands and spend a relaxing day on these vehicle-free islands that feel like they’re a world away from the city. Explore the island on a romantic horse-drawn carriage, see the historic buildings and enjoy a tasty lunch.
