TV Show Wedding Inspiration

Whether you’re a super-fan or just an occasional viewer, TV shows are a great source of inspiration for weddings. The day can pay homage to a certain show, or just incorporate a few classic details that reflect the couple’s love for a certain series, character or look.

We take a look at some TV inspired weddings and ideas that we think will make any wedding a hit.

The lives of oil magnate J.R. Ewing and his family made for compelling viewing, and as the cult TV show came back to our screens in 2012 we fell in love with it all over again. You can now get married at the Southfork Ranch, which is home to the television show! Ceremonies are held in one of the ten different ballrooms, or outside on the steps of the gazebo. If you want to add a touch of Dallas drama to your wedding, then go for 80s glamor, sequins, frills, designer labels and bouffant hairstyles.

Game of Thrones

Weddings in Game of Thrones never end well, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a wedding inspired by the show! Darren Prew and Kerry Ford, from Hereford in England, won a competition to make them over as their favorite characters from their favorite show Game Of Thrones. Kerry was made into Daenerys Targaryen, while Darren was transformed into Jon Snow. For the wedding in Eastnor Castle, 12 members of the wedding party spent more than 50 hours being transformed into characters from the fantasy drama.

Downton Abbey

We love the period costumes, the style and the romance of Downton Abbey, so it’s a perfect source of inspiration! The Edwardian style weddings of Downton Abbey offer lots of inspiration for brides and grooms-to-be, whether they want to add some elegant touches to a day or go full Downton. Try details such as art deco and art nouveau jewelry, lilies, flowing veils, dresses made of lace and silk, and of course lots of bunting.

As people who grew up watching Monica, Rachel, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross and Joey start planning their weddings, Friends themed wedding ceremonies have become a reality. From the bridal shower to the big day itself, there are lots of Friends inspired details that can be incorporated into a wedding. Try ‘The One with the…’ table names, Central Perk inspired food and china, or even have the first dance to the theme tune!

Dr Who

Now heading for its eigth series, Dr Who has caught the imaginations of multiple generations since it first broadcast on 23 November, 1963. One couple love Dr Who so much they used is as the theme for their wedding. Dr Who fans Kristina and Tom got married in Slater Cotton Mills in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The wedding featured a Tardis topped wedding cake, bridesmaids dressed in Tardis blue and even a Tardis inspired ceremony arch.

Mad Men

Matthew Weiner’s award winning show about New York's most prestigious ad agencies has inspired fashion and beauty looks since it first hit our screens. That theme has also made it into weddings as period details from the 1950s and 1960s inspire couples.  For a Mad Men feel go for knee-length wedding dresses, faux fur, vintage rings, hairpins and a birdcage veil and look for Mad Men style bars or hotels for your venue. Wedding planner David Tutera helped one couple style their dream day inspired by the hit show by turning the lobby at L.A. Center studios where they shoot the show into a Mad Men wedding venue.
