How To... Find the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Body Shape

You've got engaged and now your thoughts turn to the dress. You might have an idea of what you want, but there is still mountains of choice in front of you. Having an idea of what sort of gown will suit you before you go into a dress boutique will help you narrow down your options so you can find your dream dress in no time!

Finding a gown to suit your body shape is easier than you think, and you should be open to trying gowns you haven't imagined yourself wearing. Check out our simple-to-follow guide to help you find the perfect dress shape for your body.

Hourglass Body Shape

If you're a woman with an hourglass body your shoulders and hips are around the same size, and you have a well defined waistline and bottom. Accentuate your curves by wearing something waist-clinching to show off your figure, and avoid styles like baby-doll dresses, tunics, and large cardigans.

Apple Body Shape

Women with an apple or round body shape tend to gain weight around the tummy. You should wear something loose around your middle but fits tightly elsewhere. When shopping avoid anything that draws attention to your middle including belts and waist-cinching tops.

RECTANGLE BODY SHAPE

Are your shoulders, bust and hips around the same size but you have no defined waistline? Then you have a rectangle shape body. It's often considered boyish because of your straight-up-and-down figure. Wear styles that fit snugly at your middle but flare out at the bottom, but stay away gowns are tight all over, flowy or unstructured around the waist.

Pear Body Shape

The pear or triangle shape is a body shaped defined as shoulders and torso that are narrower than your hips. If you have this body shape you should avoid shapeless, oversized clothes and skirts in curve-hugging fabric such as silk.

Inverted Triangle Body Shape

If you have an inverted triangle body shape you have hips that are narrower than your shoulders. Women with this body shape have shoulders or bust are larger than their hips. Avoid anything that's baggy at the top, clothes with a lot of detailing on the top, high necklines and anything too tight. Short skirts are also best avoided as well as off the shoulder dresses, or dresses with boat necklines.
