Spotlight on: Elbeth Gillis
South African brides will know Elbeth Gillis’ work, but the designer is now building her brand internationally.
Dresses are made with French laces, the best silk and silk chiffons as well as pieces of tulle. Elbeth also uses hand beading and sprinkles of petals and flowers. Like the Aurora dress (above), for example, is crafted from dupion silk and a blush hued Chantilly lace bodice, a rushed silk sash and a floor-sweeping train. This dress has the hidden extra of pockets that are within its box-pleated skirt.
Her collection features timeless shapes featuring contemporary details, while contrasting fabrics and hand-beaded embellished sleeves are incorporated to complete the effect.
For this kind of quality you can expect to pay prices starting from $2,800, but that’s still kinder to your budget than a Liancarlo or Berta Bridal dress. You also get a dress that is an heirloom piece and is made to be passed from generation to generation.
We also love the real weddings on the Elbeth Gillis blog. What better way to see a dress than on a real bride!
