Real Wedding - Cyril and Alex in New York City

Most people think of France as the most romantic country in the world. But where do the French go when they get married away from home? Alex and Cyril decided to run away and elope under the bright lights of New York City (with a bit of help from Storytellers Events) and Christina Kiffney was on hand to capture their day.

“When I was a little girl, I dreamt of meeting a charming Prince,” Alex said. “I suddenly felt I had met not only a Prince, but my Prince, and he felt exactly the same way about me - I was his Princess!”

Cyril proposed to Alex in London on a romantic jazz cruise, which was perfect because Alex is a huge jazz fan. New York has always been a special place for the couple, but their hopes of visiting were almost put to an end. “One of our favorite hobbies is travelling, so in 2009, we had dreams of visiting New York City. At the same time, doctors diagnosed me with an orphan illness and we were told that I would not walk properly again!”

Alex and Cyril got through these difficult days and as time passed, Alex’s health thankfully improved. “Through it all, we never gave up, even when I had to use a wheelchair, even when my body was hurting badly, even when I got sick from the medicines - I always fought, we fought, and our strength was that we did it together."

The doctors said there was a chance that Alex might never walk again, but she didn’t give up the fight. She worked hard and went from having to use a wheelchair to using crutches and then in 2013 she recovered to the point where she could walk again!  “We have continued to fight. We were living a fairy tale, and as a princess I wanted to be on my two feet for my prince on our wedding day, so we decided the wedding could wait until I felt better.”

“We became husband and wife in the city we dreamt of visiting for so many years, New York. The dream I had since I was a young girl became true and since then we have lived happily ever after.”
