Real Wedding - Erin and Andrew in La Jolla, CA

Erin and Andrew got married last August in Darlington House, an early 20th-century Spanish estate, which was, says Erin, the jumping-off point for any discussions on décor. "I wanted to enhance the beauty of Darlington House, rather than compete with it - there are beautiful trees and rose bushes around the property and I wanted those colors to really stand out, so I kept the color palette really neutral."

You'll notice, going through Erin and Andrew's album, that the bridal and groom's parties each wore different outfits - which was a conscious decision by the bride and groom, to allow each person to express themselves. "I didn't want an overly literal, color-coordinated wedding - I wanted an effortless vibe that was ethereal, romantic and unique, so it was important that our wedding party looked like individuals before looking like an assembly line!" Erin laughs. The only instruction she gave her 'maids was to stick to a neutral color, and "no satin!" For the groomsmen, "we wanted them in grey - but left the shade and style up to them".

There were personal touches for the couple, too: "We're both fortunate enough to have two sets of parents who are still married - we chose to reprint several wedding photos from our parents' wedding albums and display them during cocktail hour, hung from some Spanish-styled lace. The photo display was a fun project, and now we have all of these photos we can frame for our house!"

And for the reception? "We wanted it to feel like a fabulous dinner party rather than a reception - we kept centerpieces low (so you didn't have to move your chair to see the person across from you) and stretched them out using two rectangular wooden planters. I wanted the centerpieces to feel like you had just picked up a beautiful rose bush and placed it on the table!"

Check out the photographs from what Erin describes as "a magical and unforgettable day" by the incredible John Schnack.
