Real Wedding - Marlene and Miguel in Plano, Texas

Having met at salsa classes in their junior year at the University of North Texas, Marlene and Miguel knew early on they wanted to be together. Marlene made one thing clear to Miguel - she wanted the proposal to be a complete surprise, and that's exactly what she got!

“It was an ordinary Monday. It was also the beginning of my last week of student teaching,” Marlene says. “Just like every other day, Miguel asked me what time I would get out of school and I didn't think twice about the question.”

“When I got out of school I text Miguel to tell him that I was on my way to pick up Mikko, our dog. I did what I needed to do, and I was on my way home when Miguel called me and asked where I was, so I told him I was on my way home. When I got there I took my time getting my things out of the car. I went up all three flights of stairs with no suspicion... until I saw the door.”

“There was a sign that said, ‘Baby Boo, follow the road and click play’ and a picture of Dorothy’s red shoes on a yellow brick road (I am a huge fan of The Wizard of Oz). The note said, ‘Please, follow these simple instructions in order for this little surprise to work. Also, you need to click play on the computer. It is already set up for you. I hope you like it, Baby Boo.’ I almost missed the beautiful pathway of yellow rose petals - my very own yellow brick road! I wiped my tears away and followed the path to the computer. I clicked play. As soon as the music began, tears ran down my face. Jason Derulo’s ‘Will you marry me’ played as picture after picture of our relationship appeared on the screen. Before the music ended the words ‘Will you marry me?’ ran across the screen. Miguel came out of the bedroom, knelt down on one knee and opened the box with the ring. All I remember was that I was crying and then I said yes.”

Marlene and Miguel's wedding at the Celebration Event Center and Ballroom in Plano, Texas was a vision in purple, a color the couple both love. The bride wore a gown by Justin Alexander while the groom opted for Vera Wang. Miguel asked that they write their vows and the couple say the ceremony was much more personal because of it.

“At the reception we had several things for our guests to enjoy,” Marlene says. “We had a photo booth, candy bar, and a chocolate fountain. There was also music for everyone to enjoy. It was very special and unique”
