Real Wedding - Michelle and Barry in Blessington, County Wicklow
There's nothing quite like an Irish wedding, so when we saw this adorable family wedding we knew it belonged in our Real Weddings section. We adore the details this couple chose for their big day, especially the purple tones which are a Deamwedding favorite!
Michelle is from County Wicklow while Barry is from County Kildare, and the couple have been together three years. “Barry proposed on Christmas Eve 2012 after making me a fabulous dinner,” Michelle says. “I didn't want to open any of my Christmas presents until Christmas morning but he made me open one. I opened it to find an amazing Links of London bracelet with an engagement ring charm and a heart charm engraved with ‘Will you marry me?’ He went down on one knee and I was speechless. It took me a while to muster a ‘Yes’!
The couple began planning the wedding in 2013, and were able to take their time when organizing their big day. “We had a loose theme of retro chic,” Michelle explains, “focusing on purple, grey and cream throughout. I focused on making everything about our individual style and personalities. I really wanted a wedding that gave our guests the personal touch, so I took care of all the creative elements myself. It was hard to find the time between working full-time and having a small child to look after, but on the day it was everything I had pictured.”
There were lots of beautiful elements to this wedding, but Michelle has a few special and funny moments from the day that stick out in her mind. “One of my highlights was definitely when Mum saw me all ready and when my dad saw me for the first time. The cutest moment was when my son decided to have a chat with the registrar mid-ceremony! It was also fabulous to see all my planning come to life. Standing at the top of the room exchanging vows with my husband was so emotional.”
While everything went to plan for Michelle and Barry, the couple say that getting references from vendors and finding out how they can work with your vision for the wedding is essential. “Make sure the photographer you choose is amazing - photos will be a lasting memory. Get a friend to video the ceremony and speeches because it's surprising what you forget.”
After the wedding the couple let for a honeymoon in Thailand, where they visited Bangkok, Koh Samui and Ko Pha Ngan. Take a look at their special day at the Tulfarris Hotel & Golf Resort in these beautiful pictures taken by Whisper I Do Photography.
